Rainbow Trout - Oncorhynchus mykiss

Rainbow trout, native to North America, is the most common trout bred in aquaculture. It prefers fast flowing waters with relatively stable thermal conditions. This species is easy to culture in flow through systems and RAS. It tolerates high densities and thus intensive farming. The optimum temperature range for culture of this species is between 8 and 16°C with tolerance up to 20°C. Its growth is fast and the flesh quality is excellent. Trout is sold as portion size fish but also as larger fish commonly known as Salmon Trout.
